Mary Carson, 2nd Grade Teacher

Hello! I am very excited to guide second graders as they continue to grow and learn this year. I am also delighted to be part of the St. Dominic community.

In May 2020, I graduated with honors from St. Catherine University (St. Kate’s) earning my Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education (K-6), a Middle Level (Grades 5-8) Science endorsement, and a STEM certificate.

Working with youth in various roles and settings in the past is what I feel ultimately led me to pursue a career in teaching. One of my favorite parts of being a teacher is when students have that moment of pride in their accomplishments on something they have been working on, and that look of “I did it!” it’s written all over them. My central belief about education is that it is for the child; their overall learning is at the forefront. Therefore, I want to have open lines of communication, and a great way to do this is to get to know students and their loved ones and be invested in their life outside of the school day (i.e. attending sports, concerts, etc.) when invited to do so. To me, the level of informal and formal education that occurs in and out of the classroom is so vital to the student’s social, emotional, literacy, physical, and cognitive development and should be validated as such in the classroom.

Outside of the school day, you will typically find me spending time with family, friends, gardening, or reading.
