Preschool (Ages 3-5)

Did You Know?

The Preschool program within Faithful Beginnings at St. Dominic School is a non-profit, Christian-based early childhood experience for children ages 3 – 5.  You may access our Preschool/Pre-Kindergarten Handbook.

We teach children to learn and explore their environment through play. We instill Catholic values that are integrated into the daily curriculum, which promotes academic excellence. Our goal is to provide for a quality educational experience and make learning joyful in a loving and secure environment. Our students explore, discover and grow through age-appropriate activities that support the development of the whole child and promote positive self-images to nurture their abilities.

What is play? Why play?

Play is the work of children. As they touch, manipulate, and experiment with materials; explore and observe their environment; and interact with adults and one another, children are laying the foundation of success for all their future learning. In our preschool program, children are highly encouraged to initiate their own activities and learning. Teachers guide by providing the appropriate materials.

Learning activities in our preschool program include circle time, small group, large group, and one on one activities. Our teachers plan learning activities that are age-appropriate and designed to help the whole child grow and develop socially, physically, intellectually, and spiritually. Our program will help prepare each child for kindergarten, as well as open the door for the children to be creative and express their inventive abilities.

Minnesota’s Early Childhood Indicators of Progress (ECIPs)

Our teachers understand the areas of child development and incorporate the Minnesota’s Early Childhood Indicators of Progress (ECIPs) into their lesson plans.

Early Childhood Indicators of Progress ages 3-5

  1. Social and Emotional
  2. Approaches to Learning
  3. Language and Literacy Development
  4. Creativity and the Arts
  5. Cognitive Development
  6. Physical and Motor Development

Saintly Emotional Learning (SEL)

Our preschool program uses a Saint of the Month to teach social-emotional skills. Each month a new Saint is introduced with an emotional connector. Social-emotional learning is a critical component to early childhood education. SEL describes the mindsets, skills, attitudes, and feelings that help students succeed in school, career, and life.

Groves: Literacy Program

Our preschool program utilizes Groves Academy to teach phonemic awareness and early literacy skills.

Specialists

Our preschool program is blessed to be able to go to the same Specialist classes as our school age children. Preschoolers get to participate in Art, Music, P.E., and Library.

Each day at Saint Dominic’s is a fun, learning adventure! We can’t wait for you to join us.
